As clean energy policies and electric vehicle (EV) tax credits continue to be debated at the state and federal levels, a new national poll shows there is broad bipartisan support for EV manufacturing and investments in the United States. The poll also finds that there is specifically strong support for EV tax incentives that lower costs, expand energy efficiency, create jobs for Americans, and help the U.S. compete in the global auto industry race.

The bipartisan, national poll was conducted by Meeting Street Insights and Hart Research Associates, and was jointly commissioned by Centerline Liberties, the Conservative Energy Network (CEN), and the Zero Emission Transportation Association (ZETA). The survey was conducted in February 2025 among more than 1,000 registered voters nationwide, with more than 500 registered voters in 15 EV Investment Congressional Districts.

While clean energy manufacturing, like EVs, is often viewed through a partisan lens, the poll reveals it’s a bipartisan issue, with solid support from Republicans. The survey findings indicate that 85% of voters nationwide, including 76% of Republicans “believe the federal government should support American companies that make affordable, powerful EVs built by American workers.”

Former U.S. Representative Ryan Costello (R-PA) shared his view on the poll results in the press release, “Policies that support innovation in the auto industry, maximize consumer choice and affordability, and re-shore supply chains make U.S. manufacturing more competitive, advantage American workers, and are clear winners with voters.” According to the poll, 72% of Republicans agree that investing in EV manufacturing and infrastructure gives consumers more choices.

As tariffs rise in the U.S. and abroad, strengthening American manufacturing has never been more timely– and investing in EV production would help achieve that goal. The poll shares that 75% of Republicans agree that investing in EV manufacturing and infrastructure would create good jobs for Americans. Moreover, the poll highlights that 62% of Americans specifically say it is “very or fairly important that the U.S. beats China in the manufacturing of EVs,” and 81% of Republicans “support federal investments that keep EV manufacturing jobs in the U.S. so they don’t go to China.”

Poll commissioner and Centerline Liberties President, James Dozier, shared how furthering federal support of EV manufacturing and investments would positively impact the United States, “Americans overwhelmingly agree: we must invest in our workers and incentivize manufacturers to build affordable, high-quality EVs—not let China dominate this industry. Keeping these jobs here strengthens our economy, secures our supply chains, and ensures America continues to lead in innovation.”

With bipartisan support for EV investments reflected in the poll, policymakers have an opportunity to consider public opinion as they evaluate future transportation and manufacturing policies.
